- Glycogenin glucosyltransferase
In
enzymology , a glycogenin glucosyltransferase (EC number|2.4.1.186) is anenzyme that catalyzes thechemical reaction :UDP-alpha-D-glucose + glycogenin ightleftharpoons UDP + alpha-D-glucosylglycogenin
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are
UDP-alpha-D-glucose andglycogenin , whereas its two products are UDP andalpha-D-glucosylglycogenin .This enzyme belongs to the family of
glycosyltransferase s, specifically the hexosyltransferases. The systematic name of this enzyme class is UDP-alpha-D-glucose:glycogenin alpha-D-glucosyltransferase. Other names in common use include glycogenin, priming glucosyltransferase, and UDP-glucose:glycogenin glucosyltransferase.tructural studies
As of late 2007, 9 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes PDB link|1LL0, PDB link|1LL2, PDB link|1LL3, PDB link|1ZCT, PDB link|1ZCU, PDB link|1ZCV, PDB link|1ZCY, PDB link|1ZDF, and PDB link|1ZDG.
