Past Shows
As a rock fan, his early broadcasting on
Metro Radio was on a rock show called "Bridges", and he went on to host the late Saturday "Hot 'n' Heavy Express" show. Alan had very long hair and moustache - which, being ginger, made him quite a distinctive character when he was seen in public. After the departure of James Whale, Alan Beswick, Tony Crosby and Dave Porter presented the NightOwls show for a short period, before Alan Robson began presenting the show in 1983.
Current Shows
His current Rock Show is named the Hot and Heavy. The show consists of many rock songs from the past and present accompanied with jokes, prizes and competitions
The NightOwls show is a lighthearted late night phone in radio show. It is one of Britain’s most listened to shows on commercial radio. Alan’s NightOwl’s show won World's Best Talk Show in the New York Radio Awards.
Alan and Wayne
Alan Robson is a close friend to radio presenter Wayne. Wayne presented the Evening Show before Alan’s show from 2000-2007 yet despite his departure from Metro remains part of the special shows. Between the two presenters there is rivalry. The 'Alan vs. Wayne saga' involves them pulling pranks on each other, yet at the same time Alan headed an "anti bullying" drive with Metro radio, Alan openly bullied Wayne time and time again. One such prank involved Alan apparently locking Wayne in the office and leaving him there for most of the nightowl show. Another prank included Wayne sending Alan to Spain to meet him but Wayne wasn't there. Alan missed his flight back to the UK and missed his Sunday night show. The latest to-ing and fro-ing in the rivalry has included Alan popping round to Wayne's house when he was on holiday and wrecking his home. Then Alan's car was borrowed by Wayne and his partner in crime George Elliott whilst Alan was in America, and the latest was Alan's revenge on 06/06/06 during his "Satanic" night on Nightowls he and Wayne's so called friend, George Elliott, plotted together to leave Wayne chained to a fence by the river Tyne, naked!
pecial Paranormal Broadcasts
In his latest Halloween show, Alan and his then producer Kenny D visited "The Scariest Place on Earth". During the shows leading up to the event, he refused to reveal the location of his Halloween show. In fact, he visited the Sedlec Ossuary, Prague, more commonly known as the "Bone Church". Alan believed this to be a possible resting place for Vlad the Impaler. During the show, a local tour guide revealed nobody visits the area after 4:30pm, and was reluctant to even take part in the event. Later on when Alan fled the building in a state of panic, the tour guide left Alan and Kenny alone. Kenny then refused to enter the church. Alan entered the Bone Church alone, and at this time, many listeners heard wailing voices and whispers in Czech – one obvious voice was "Help me, I'm falling". Alan was left with no choice but to flee from the building after he believed he seen a figure/presence behind him. On the following Nightowls show 1 November 2006, Alan revealed he eventually managed to convince the tour guide to come back and pick them up, after Kenny did not wish to camp out in the graveyard.
