The village was founded in 1886 with the purchase of a quarter acre of land. The arrival of the Union Pacific Railroad helped the village grow.

United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 0.3square mile s (0.8km² ), all of it land.The village is located on State Highway 30 and is one mile north of
Interstate 80 .Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 372 people, 169 households, and 111 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,253.9 people per square mile (478.8/km²). There were 190 housing units at an average density of 640.4/sq mi (244.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 93.55% White, 1.08% Native American, 3.76% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.26% of the population.There were 169 households out of which 23.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.77.
In the village the population was spread out with 21.0% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 26.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $23,036, and the median income for a family was $34,063. Males had a median income of $24,583 versus $17,404 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $14,530. About 7.9% of families and 10.1% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 13.0% of those under age 18 and 12.4% of those age 65 or over.References
