Elton John and lyricistBernie Taupin , and is the eighth track on John's 1970 "Tumbleweed Connection " album. A live version is also available on the 1995 reissue of the "11-17-70 " album. The song accompanied the opening credits of the 1975 film "Dog Day Afternoon ", the only use of any music throughout the film.
