next_route=60State Route 59A (also known as NY 59A) was a former segment of NY 59 between Nanuet and West Nyack,
New York . As with the rest of NY 59, it was an east-west road in southern Rockland County in the State of New York. It ran from NY 59 east ofRockland CR 33 inNanuet, New York to NY 59 in Clarkstown (near the intersection withNew York State Route 304 ).Route 59A was once part of the Rockland Turnpike, which made up most of its parent route. When Route 59 was assigned in the
1930 New York State Route renumbering , it used the entire alignment of NY 59A. When Route 59 was realigned onto its current alignment, the short remaining part weas redesignated as NY 59A. In 1960, control of the highway was turned over to the town of Clarkstown during a realignment, and NY 59A was decommissioned. The highway, after 36 years, remained known as Old Route 59A, and was abandoned for some time. A local company sought interest, helping to incorporate the road into shopping center accesses. The county then complained that the town had no rights to control and sued the company that helped improve the highway in 2002.Route description
Route 59A began at an intersection with
New York State Route 59 , its parent route, andNew York State Route 304 at an intersection in Clarkstown. There, Route 59A became concurrent with 304, passing Saint Anthony's School at the southern terminus. The highway intersected with Ludwich Road, which paralleled the two at first, until Route 304 split after a short distance. Route 59A continued eastward, parallelling its parent route.cite map|url=http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gisdata/quads/drg24/usgspreview/index.cfm?code=o41074a1|title=Park Ridge, NY quadrangle|year=1955|accessdate=2008-08-21|publisher=United States Geological Survey]References
