Canadian Mennonite University was formed through the almagamation of three different colleges: Canadian Mennonite Bible College (founded in 1947), Concord College (founded as Mennonite Brethren Bible College in 1944), and Menno Simons College (founded in 1988).
The process for creating one Mennonite university in Manitoba began in the 1990s. A fourth college,
Steinbach Bible College , was also involved, but later withdrew. In 1998, the provincial government awarded acharter to the Mennonite College Federation, and for the next two years the three colleges worked towards offering cooperativepost-secondary programs. The name Canadian Mennonite University was formally announced in early 2000 and classes began in September of that year on a new campus, comprised of the campus of Canadian Mennonite Bible College on the south-west corner of Grant and Shaftesbury and the former campus of the Manitoba School for the Deaf, located on the north-west corner of the same intersection.Academic programs

This program is a cooperative effort of Mennonite colleges across Manitoba as well as colleges in
California andIndiana .Anabaptist introductions tobiblical studies , theology,history andethics , and practical theology are offered to ministry candidates from any denomination.Winnipeg Theological Consortium
This program, formed in 1988, allows students from across Winnipeg to earn a
Master of Divinity degree while attending another university. The program has three sub-divisions: congregational ministry, pastoral care and counseling, and theological studies.Outtatown
Outtatown is an eight-month adventure and discipleship school that finds students studying and serving in Canada, Guatemala and South Africa. In the first semeseter students travel in Western Canada. After the Christmas break, they live in
Guatemala orSouth Africa . It was formerly called the School of Discipleship.Sports
The University is represented by the CMU Blazers in hockey, soccer, volleyball and basketball. Teams play in the Central Plains Athletic Conference (CPAC) and the
