After having begun practicingplural marriage , he was convicted under theEdmunds Act of unlawfulcohabitation in 1886 and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, which he served in full.On
7 October 1889 , Church PresidentWilford Woodruff called Cannon as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was ordained an apostle on that date byJoseph F. Smith . Cannon served in this capacity until his premature death at the age of 37 inSalt Lake City .Published works
