- Formamidase
In
enzymology , a formamidase (EC number|3.5.1.49) is anenzyme that catalyzes thechemical reaction :formamide + H2O formate + NH3
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are
formamide and H2O, whereas its two products areformate and NH3.This enzyme belongs to the family of
hydrolase s, those acting on carbon-nitrogen bonds other than peptide bonds, specifically in linear amides. The systematic name of this enzyme class is formamide amidohydrolase. This enzyme participates inglyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism andnitrogen metabolism .tructural studies
As of late 2007, 4 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes PDB link|2DYU, PDB link|2DYV, PDB link|2E2K, and PDB link|2E2L.
