Progressive Party (Portugal)

Progressive Party (Portugal)

With its opponent the Partido Regenerador, the Progressive Party (Portuguese - Partido Progressista) was one of the two historical political parties created by the Portuguese constitutional monarchy at the end of the 19th century.

This party and the Partido Regenerador divided the Portuguese, thus creating a sociological and psychological breach. A good example is, in Seixal, the division between two Philharmonic Societies, one that supported the Partido Regenerador (at Timbre Seixalense) and, made up of those who did not support this party, the Sociedade Filarmónica União Seixalense (created in 1871), supporting the Progressive Party.

Both still exist, despite disagreements and existing partisan differences.
