Centertown is a village in Cole County, Missouri, United States. The population was 257 at the 2000 census, at which time it was a town.

Geography

Centertown is located at coor dms|38|37|9|N|92|24|44|W|city (38.619106, -92.412250)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 257 people, 117 households, and 73 families residing in the town. The population density was 285.4 people per square mile (110.3/km²). There were 132 housing units at an average density of 146.6/sq mi (56.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.22% White, 0.39% Native American and 0.39% Asian.

There were 117 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.78.

In the town the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $39,750, and the median income for a family was $47,417. Males had a median income of $26,591 versus $20,769 for females. The per capita income for the town was $17,321. About 2.2% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.8% of those under the age of eighteen and 8.9% of those sixty five or over.
