The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, known to the industries it serves as PIA, is located at the Allegheny County Airport just south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PIA offers Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) degrees in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Aviation Electronics Technology, Electronic Systems Technology, and Mechanical Systems Technology. Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics also has a campus at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna, Ohio, which offers a 16-month diploma program in Aviation Maintenance which, like the Aviation Maintenance degree program, qualifies graduates to test for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification. PIA's Associate degree programs are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
PIA's short-term programs are marketed under the name PIA Jump Start (formerly PIA Career Services), and include training in the following areas: Truck Driving, Heavy Equipment Operation, Computer Technology, and Computer-Based Office Training. The Jump Start programs are non-accredited programs that are designed to quickly prepare its graduates for new careers. PIA Jump Start programs are offered at training centers in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; Nutter Fort, West Virginia; Wheeling, West Virginia; Weirton, West Virginia; and Dunbar, West Virginia.
PIA is a not-for-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status. The President and CEO is John Graham III.
History
Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics was founded in 1929. PIA's short term program offerings began as PIA Truck Driving in 1995.
