An early settler of the area, Thomas Paden, built his home here, which he called Castle Garden. The establishment was burned by Union troops during the
American Civil War and the area became known as Burnt Hill. When the town was incorporated its name was changed to Paden.Geography

There were 65 housing units at an average density of 72.7/sq mi (28.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.There were 49 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.8% were non-families. 38.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the village the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 36.8% from 25 to 44, 16.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
