Library and Information History Group

The Library and Information History Group (LIHG)

The [http://www.cilip.org.uk/specialinterestgroups/bysubject/history Library and Information History Group] was formed in 1962 and is one of CILIP's oldest special interest groups. It is currently the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of information, in its broadest sense, and to the history of libraries.

The Group runs seminars, academic awards, research projects, special visits and conferences, and has a national network of members involved in all aspects of information and library history. The LIHG publishes a regular newsletter, and a scholarly journal, [http://www.maney.co.uk/search?fwaction=show&fwid=184 Library History] , also appears under its aegis.

Recent research projects have included the three volume Cambridge History of Libraries in Britain and Ireland (CUP, 2006) and the Electronic Memory Project. The Group also acts in an advisory capacity to historic library and book collections.

Membership of the Group is open to anyone with a general interest in the history of print culture, the history of the book, in library history, or in information history.
