As WUUU

102.5 WUMX signed on in 1984 as WUUU, an Adult Contemporary station under the ownership of Norma Eilenberg. WUUU was known as "U-102" hence the callsign and the Utica, NY Broadcast area. In 1989, WUUU changed to an oldies format, dropping the "U-102" moniker and was renamed Oldies 102. The WUUU call letters remained until a frequency swap with WKDY in 1993 which was on 93.5FM.

As WKDY

102.5 operated under the country music format known as "hot country KDY 102.5" aimed against rival WFRG. Ironically, WFRG also went through a frequecy swap. "KDY country" proved no match for WFRG and was last place in the Utica-Rome market. In August 1994, Norma Eilenberg Changed WKDY's format to CHR and became Kiss 102 after the Utica-Rome market went more than two months without a Top 40 station when Top 40 powerhouse WRCK changed from CHR to Classic Rock.

As WSKS

In December 1995, Kiss 102 changed its calls to WSKS. In the fall of 1996 Kiss 102 was renamed 102.5 Kiss FM. In 1997, Norma Eilenberg sold WSKS to Dame Media, but remained a Top 40 station. The station was sold by Dame Media to Clear Channel Communications in 1999. One year later, Clear Channel bought rival WOW-FM (WOWZ/WOWB) and Kiss-FM (WSKS) eventually took over the WOW-FM frequencies and WOWB Became WSKU. 102.5 played various formats until landing its second stint as a country music station.

As WRBY

In 2001, 102.5 changed calls to WRBY and became "Bob 102.5". Under the country music format for the second time, Bob 102.5 played country music marathons known as "20 Song Bob-A-Thons", causing rival Big Frog 104 (WFRG) to ditch its longtime "10 Songs In A Row" Imaging. Bob 102.5 also best known for slogan "Turn Your Knob To Bob". Despite their imaging and slogan WRBY had modest ratings compared to Big Frog 104 for a long time. At the beginning of 2004, Clear Channel spun the "Wheel Of Formats" and landed Hot AC. On January 12, 2004 WRBY flipped to the current "Mix 102.5". Mix 102.5 played music from the 80's, 90's, and now.

As WUMX

Shortly after the format change Mix 102.5 changed calls to the present-day WUMX. In October 2007, Clear Channel sold WUMX along with sister stations WOUR, WRNY, and WIXT to Galaxy Communications. Personalities on the station include Big Mike from 6am to 10am, Melanie from 10am to 3pm and Rick Gary from 3pm to 7pm. The John Tesh Show airs Sunday through Friday from 7pm to Midnight. From early November 'til Christmas Day, the station flips to a holiday music format and is named "Christmix 102.5". That practice began in 2005.
