- Robinson State Park
Robinson State Park is a narrow, urban 852 acre park located mostly in
Agawam, MA and partly inWestfield, MA . The southern bank of the meanderingWestfield River creates the northern border of the park. The park's three levels of terrain are conducive to growing over 43 different species of trees, possibly being the most diverse forest inMassachusetts and the rarest.Quite a variety of
wildflowers , some rare, threatened, orendangered exist in the park. Mother Nature also provides the perfect balance for many animals to make their homes in the park. Just a few of these creatures arefisher cat ,otter ,beaver ,deer ,coyote ,red fox ,bear ,egrets , pairs ofbald eagles , and on occasionalmoose . Many birds make Robinson a stopover on their way fromSouth America toCanada and also on the return visit. On any given day, during any season of the year, one will find this hidden treasure well-used for recreational purposes as John C. Robinson wanted it when he donated it as a park in the 1930's. Roads built by the CCC Boys or trails marked by a "Friends" group, make it easy to enjoy seeing the park by car, foot, or bike.
