Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan was born in
Comilla ,Bangladesh , on July 1958. He is the only son of Ustad Abed Hossain Khan. He comes of a family of great musicians of the sub-continent. He is the grandson of Ustad Ayet Ali Khan (the youngest brother of Ustad Alauddin Khan), and nephew of UstadAli Akbar Khan , and UstadBahadur Khan .Ripples in Meadows: Shahadat Hossain Khan's Audio CD
Early life and Training
Shahadat was attracted to music, his family tradition, from his early boyhood. At the age of seven, he started taking lessons on
Sarod from his father. Later on he became the disciple of his uncle Ustaad Bahadur Khan, the celebrated Sarod player of the sub-continent. In 1972, Shahadat performed instrumental duet with his uncle Ustaad Bahadur Khan at the 'Alauddin Music Conference' inDhaka , which was highly lauded by audience. During extensive tours of India with his father as a guest artist of
All India Radio , he performed in Kolkata, Madras (Chennai), Srinagar, and Delhi. Shahadat had the unique opportunity of participating in the 'All India Radio Music Conference' along with the famous exponents of classical music from all over India. He was honored with the 'Chalochchitro Projojok Samiti' (Association of Film Producers Award) for his super performance. In 1980 he accompanied a Bangladesh cultural delegation to Middle East. His excellent performance enthralled the audience and earned great fame for his country. In 1983, Shahadat participated in the 'All Bangladesh Music Conference' in Dhaka, and won gold medal. In 1989, he was honored with a Rotary (Buriganga) Award in recognition of his excellent performance on Sarod. In 1991, he performed solo in France for raising fund for the flood victims of Bangladesh. Shahadat accompanied Bangladesh cultural delegations to USA, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, Srilanka, Italy, India, North Korea, China,Hong Kong, Russia, Sweden, and Denmark.CD publications
Shahadat's 1st and 3rd CD were released by Mehwish Enterprises Ltd. and Y.A.K. Production, London, UK. His 2nd CD was released from Bangladesh. Shahadat composed and directed the music for the documentary films "Mrityuheen Pran", "Meet Bangladesh" [ cite web |url= http://www.discoverybangladesh.com/meetbangladesh |title= Meet Bangladesh |work= ] , and "Ripples in Meadows" (produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bangladeshi embassies around the world).
Achievements and Awards
In 1994, he received the highest State Award of Bangladesh, the '
Ekushey Padak ' for his contribution in the field of music.He obtained the degree 'Vadya Alankar' in music from Ali Akbar College of Music, California, USA. He is an M.A in History from Dhaka University.
