Born in 1967, Reenat Fauzia, a noted Sitarist, daughter of
Mobarak Hossain Khan , a distinguished musicologist and litterateur, and a renowned Surbahar artiste, andFauzia Khan , famous vocal artiste, comes of an internationally renowned family of musicians ofBangladesh . She is the granddaughter of UstaadAyet Ali Khan , the maestro of Music of the sub-continent, who was the youngest brother of UstaadAlauddin Khan , the world reputed Maestro of Seni-Maihar and Alauddin Gharana of Music, belonging to village Shibpur, districtBrahmanbaria . Reenat Fauzia was born in this family of a rich tradition and culture of music, where melody of music is something spontaneous in her being. Her father Mobarak Hossain Khan is also a former Director General ofBangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of fine and performing arts), and the Chairman of the Trustee Board ofNazrul Institute , under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Bangladesh.'A Touch of Love': Reenat Fauzia's First CD
Early life
Reenat was attracted to music in a cultured milieu of her family since her childhood. She drew her inspiration to play on
Sitar out of her love for the legacy of legendary achievements in instrumental music germane to her family tradition. She began taking lessons on Sitar since her school days. The family music tradition made a significant contribution to her aspirations to rise to musical heights.Training and Achievements
Reenat started her training in music lessons from her cousin Ustaad
Shahadat Hossain Khan , reputedSarode player of Bangladesh. Later, she received her ‘Guru-Shishya-Parampara’ music training from her cousin UstaadKhurshid Khan , a distinguished Sitar preceptor.She completed a five years certificate course on Sitar from ‘Chhayanaut ’, a pioneering music institute of Bangladesh. Later on she joined the faculty of the same institute as a teacher. After taking lessons on Sitar for twelve long years, she joined participating in programs ofBangladesh Television andBangladesh Betar (Radio Bangladesh) regularly. She also performed in the special magazine and music programs of Television. She also makes frequent appearance in stage for performing solo recital on Sitar. Reenat Fauzia is considered as one of the best among female Sitar players of the Khan family and is the outstanding female Sitarist in Bangladesh. She is still continuing her talim from Ustaad Khurshid Khan.Reenat Fauzia has a brilliant academic career too. In both her B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. examinations from Dhaka University, she obtained 1st class 1st position in Home Economics, besides securing 1st position in Dhaka board SSC and HSC examinations in Home Economics in 1982 and 1984 respectively. She obtained her Post Graduate Diploma from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands.
