Medical Mycology

Medical Mycology

Medical Mycology is a scientific journal published by the International Society of Human and Animal Mycology in eight issues per year. The journal was established in 1962 as Sabouraudia, honoring the French dermatologist/medical mycologist, Raimond Sabouraud and publishing 3 to 4 issues per year. In 1986 the name was changed to the Journal of Medical and Veterinary Mycology and the number of issues was increased to six per year. The journal obtained its current name in 1998, increasing the number of yearly issues to eight in 2005. In addition, the journal occasionally publishes supplemental issues on specific topics of current interest to the medical mycology community or the proceedings of international conferences.

Medical Mycology covers all aspects of medical, veterinary and environmental mycology. Topics include, but are not limited to mycological, biochemical and molecular investigations of etiological agents of mycoses; aspects of the pathogenesis, immunology, and epidemiology of mycotic diseases; case reports of unusual medical or veterinary fungal infections; laboratory approaches to the identification of fungal pathogens, antifungal therapy and prophylaxis; mode of action, pharmacokinetics, and assessments of new antifungal agents; investigations of the mycological aspects of the indoor environment, with a focus on human and animal health. The editor-in-chief is Ira F. Salkin (State University of New York).

According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2009 impact factor of 2.133, ranking it 6th out of 19 journals in the category "Mycology" and 9th out of 140 journals in the category "Veterinary sciences".[1]
