1st: £40,462.50The November Handicap is a flat horse race in Great Britain which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Doncaster over a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs (2,414 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early November.
The event is a handicap, and it was established in 1876. It was originally held at Manchester, where it was called the Manchester November Handicap. It was initially contested over 1 mile and 6 furlongs, and it was cut to its present length in 1903.
The race began a short spell at Pontefract in 1942, and it returned to Manchester in 1946. The latter venue closed in 1963, and the event was transferred to Doncaster the following year. At its new home it was initially called the Manchester Handicap. For a period it took place in October on the same day as the Observer Gold Cup. It was rescheduled for November in 1976, and since then it has been known by its present title.
The November Handicap is now run on the last day of the British turf flat racing season. It was sponsored by Totesport (formerly the Tote) from 1994 to 2010 and by Betfred from 2011.
