plant in familyDipterocarpaceae . The name "Anisoptera" is derived from Greek (" _gr. anisos" = “unequal” and " _gr. pteron" = “wing”) and describes the unequal fruit calyx lobes. It contains ten species distributed from Chittagong (Bangladesh) to New Guinea (Ashton 2004). Eight out of the ten species are currently listed on theIUCN redlist . Of these, four species are listed ascritically endangered and the other four asendangered . The main threat ishabitat loss . The timber is a light hardwood.References
