Brooks World Poverty Institute

The Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI) is a research centre connected to the University of Manchester dedicated to multidisciplinary research on poverty, inequality and growth. It was created in 2005 following the donation of £1.3 million to the university by the Rory and Elizabeth Brooks Foundation, comprising one of the largest known gifts to fund poverty research in Europe. This has been augmented by funding from the University of Manchester. [ [http://www.bwpi.manchester.ac.uk/ "Brooks World Poverty Institute Website"] ] Professor Joseph Stiglitz, former Chief Economist of the World Bank, chairs BWPI's research.
