Scorton, Lancashire

Scorton is a small village near the River Wyre, in the Wyre district of Lancashire, England. It is located north of Garstang. The name means "farmstead near a ditch or ravine" [ [http://www.wyrebc.gov.uk/Council_Services/Tourist_Information/History_of_Wyre/Scorton.asp Wyre Borough Council - History of Wyre - Scorton ] ]

In the 19th century there was a cotton mill in the village [ [http://www.gornalls.plus.com/scorton/industry/industry.htm Industry ] ] and the village had a railway station on the West Coast Main Line from 1841 until 1939. [ [http://www.gornalls.plus.com/scorton/history/timeline.htm Timeline ] ] Although the village has three churches there is no pub in the village. [ [http://www.gornalls.plus.com/scorton/pubs/pubs.htm Pubs ] ] Village is home to the Priory Cafe which is a Mecca for cyclists from around the region.
