History

Marseille was formed in 1976, and released their debut album, Red, White and Slightly Blue on the label Mountain in 1978. Members included Paul Dale (vocals), Neil Buchanan (guitar), Andy Charters (guitar), Keith Knowles (drums) and Steve Dunwoodie (bass). Marseille were the first band to win Battle of the Bands.[citation needed]

Marseille gathered a small fanbase while promoting their first album as support for other groups such as Judas Priest, Nazareth and UFO.[1] Their debut, that suffered somewhat from lack in promotion and limitation of release, had very raunchy lyrics[2] For the single, Kiss Like Rock 'n' Roll the band were produced by Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton.

Their second release, the eponymous Marseille, received airplay on local radio, extending their fanbase. However record company issues and disinterest in the band caused Marseille to split-up after their third and final release Touch The Night.[3] Dinwoodie and Knowles were the only original members to play on the album; Sav Pearse provided vocals, and guitars were recorded courtesy of Marc Railton.

The original line up reunited for a handful of gigs in 2008, however Paul Dale left the band and was replaced in February 2009 by Nigel Roberts. The band are currently working on new material, as well as reworking old Marseille classics for future release, intending to start performing in Spring 2009.

Now, with two new additions to the band in early 2010, Gareth Webb (Bolton, UK) on drums and Lee Andrews (Wigan, UK) on bass, the band has started touring the United Kingdom and Spain very soon, with future tours planned along Europe, The United States of America and Japan.

Gareth Webb stands down from the drum stool with Ace Finchum (ex-Tigertailz)filling the vacant slot for the Welsh dates April 2011. Ace Finchum confirmed as new stickman for the group on 1 May 2011 via their Facebook page.
