List of environmental philosophers

A list of environmental philosophers, ordered alphabetically.

This list includes living or recently deceased individuals who have published in the field of environmental ethics/philosophy (most of whom have PhDs in Philosophy, and are employed as philosophy professors), and those who are commonly regarded as precursors to the field. See below for a list of leading philosophy programs in environmental ethics/philosophy. The list should serve students, scholars, and the public interested in identifying sites of thinking on environmental questions.

Environmental philosophy has been impacted by individuals with a range of backgrounds, reminiscent of the approach of the natural philosophy, natural religion, and natural history traditions. Interestingly, the list of environmental philosophers includes biologists, ecologists and other scientists who have considered and written extensively about the environment and the human impact and relation to the environment.
