The LEAD is the publication of the Advanced Journalism Class of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City, Philippines. It is an independent paper funded by the students of the class themselves. In 2007, The LEAD, the most multi-awarded college publication since 2000 in the College Press Awards, celebrates its 10th year.

The LEAD editors and writers have made use of their Journalism training and have been working as editors, reporters and journalists of national and local newspapers, television and radio organizations.

History

The LEAD was initiated by St. La Salle Professor Allen Del Carmen, who earned his Master of Science in Journalism degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under a graduate fellowship grant from Rotary Foundation International.

Awards

The LEAD has been chosen four times in a row as the Best College Publication and Best Departmental Publication in the COPRE. It has also been consistently chosen as the publication with the Best News, Sports, Editorial and Features Page.

In 2006, it set an unprecedented record as recipient of the Graciano Lopez Jaena Trophy in two categories – Best College Newspaper and Best Departmental Publication – for winning the title three times in a row.
