In the End is the eighth and final song from Rush's second album Fly by Night. The music was written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson and the lyrics were written by Lee. This song is an example of Lifeson starting a song by playing an acoustic guitar, then switching to an electric after the intro. This is something he did again on their 1978 album "Hemispheres" on the song The Trees.

Trivia

In the live version recorded for "All the World's a Stage" before Alex starts the main guitar riff, you can hear Geddy slowly count in echo "one...two...buckle my shoe." This happens at about 1:48.
