It was named for
Harvey Heth , the man who surveyed much ofSouthern Indiana . Heth is buried in the western part of the township and was a major landholder in the area during the early 1800s.The Township includes the incorporate town of
Mauckport, Indiana . It also includes the unincorporated town of Central.The township is served from a post office in Mauckport. The townships zip codes are 47142 and 47143.
The township is part of the
South Harrison School District and it's children attendHeth-Washington Elementary which is also attended by Washington Township children. Middle and High School age children attend CCHS in Corydon.The township is home to
Squire Boone Caverns and Historic Village whereSquire Boone , the brother ofDaniel Boone , is buried. In the early 1800s the township was also home Isiah and James Boone.The township is bordered by the Ohio River and Kentucky on the southern side. It is also the site of the only bridge over the Ohio River in Harrison County.
