Oxfordshire ,England . It lies on the left bank of theRiver Thames , in thecivil parish ofClifton Hampden . Until 1932 the village was in the civil parish of Dorchester.Burcot lies on the main road from Dorchester to
Abingdon , now the A415.In the 17th century Burcot was an important transhipment point on the Thames. Because the river had become almost innavigable between
Oxford and Burcot, goods destined for Oxford had to be unloaded from barges at Burcot and carried by wagons to Oxford. This led in 1605 to the formation of theOxford-Burcot Commission to improve the navigation.References
