York (Layerthorpe) railway station was a railway station in the Layerthorpe area of the city of York.
Opened on July 19, 1913 it served as the northern terminus of the Derwent Valley Light Railway although the railway at that end was connected to the existing Foss Islands Branch Line and thence to the North Eastern Railway's York to Scarborough Line. Traffic through the station was predominantly agricultural freight and of course Blackberries from farms and local industries along the route of the DVLR although small passenger services did run on the line from 1913 to 1926 and from 1977 to 1979. The DVLR closed on September 27, 1981 but the station buildings and sidings at Layerthorpe came into the hands of British Rail who owned the Foss Islands Branch. This ensured the survival of the station until 1989 when the branch line closed. It is hoped the preserved Dervent Valley Railway may extend to the site of the site in the near future.
