American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association

American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association

The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHMRA) was formed in 1984 as a private business. In 1987 it was reorganized as a member owned non profit organization. AHRMA is a racing organization for several forms of vintage motorcycle racing, including roadracing, dirt track ( flat track), and trials — though the majority of members are vintage motocrossers.

While it can certainly be said that vintage motocross began as soon as anyone began racing perhaps two year old bikes, it is generally accepted that began in the early 1980s. The CZ world championships (which required any type chassis, but with a CZ engine) may have sparked interests in reviving not only the early motocross machinery, but also the atmosphere of American motocross from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. This said, AHRMA is the longest running national organization for vintage motorcycle racing, and one of the longest running overall.
