smooth jazz station, replacing the recently-flipped WSMJ (which became country WJRV). Originally owned by Richmond Broadcasting, the station was sold to Main Line Broadcasting in August 2005. In October 2005, the station flipped to its current "country that rocks" format under program director Jeff Beck, who had earlier put Fredericksburg'sWGRX on the air as "Thunder Country" using the same mix of country and Southern rock. The original on air line up had Mike Levay in mornings (moving over from sister stationWBBT-FM ), Tara Hunter in mid-days (a former co-worker of Beck's atWRXL ) Beck in afternoon drive and "K2" in the evenings. In 2007, Hunter (who was also the cluster's production director) left the station to become the afternoon drive personality at country competitorWKHK .
