Polebrook is a village in East Northamptonshire, England

History

There is evidence that Polebrook as a settlement dates back to 4000 BC, [ [http://www.polebrook.org.uk/overview.html Welcome to Polebrook ] ] . The farms were mainly centred around the modern day village of Ashton. Polebrook is called Pochebroc in the Domesday Book, [ [http://www.polebrook.org.uk/domesday_record.html Domesday Polebrook ] ] and was the centre of a large administrative area (the Polebrook Hundreds).

There was a wooden church here which supposedly pre-dated the Church of All Saints. The 351st Bomber Group was stationed at the airfield near Polebrook during World War II, and the flag of the United States hangs as a memorial to the men, along with a roll of honour in the church. The airfield is now disused, but remains a rich part of Polebrook culture; the church has been replaced by the Polebrook Church. For sometime during the war Clark Gable was stationed at Polebrook and at RAF Marsden Moor near Wetherby.

Polebrook Today

The rector of Polebrook (along with Lutton, Luddington in the Brook, Thurning, Hemington, Barnwell) is Revd. Catherine Ievins, whose husband, Peter, is also ordained and acts as an assistant priest. They have one daughter, Alice, who at eleven years old had a letter published in "The Independent" [ [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20010721/ai_n14409643 Letter: Save Peter Rabbit | Independent, The (London) | Find Articles at BNET.com ] ] and two sons, John and David.
