Academics
The school ethnicity make-up in 2007 was 46% White/non-Hispanic, 1% Black/non-Hispanic, 49% Hispanic, 3% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native. The Department of Education designated the school "satisfactory" after previously rating it as "unsafe" in 2006. The "unsafe" rating was due to the number of suspensions and expulsions for violence and weapon possession. The improvement was attributed to increased discussion and education involving teachers, administrators and students.[3]
In 2008, 63% of the school's seniors received their high school diploma. Of 208 students, 132 graduated, 68 dropped out, and 8 are still in high school.[4][5]
