"Ty the Tasmanian Tiger" is the first title in a video game series for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube produced by Krome Studios in 2002.

In 2004 a sequel, ' was released on all the above platforms, in addition to Game Boy Advance. Also in 2004, DPS Film Roman and Krome Studios announced they would produce an animated cartoon series based on the game, but it never saw the light of day. In May 2005, Activision and Krome Studios signed a co-publishing agreement for the third installment of the series: '. It was released in October of the same year.

Plot summary

Once, long ago, an epic battle ensued between Boss Cass and a family of Tasmania Tigers for control for five mystical talismans. Boss Cass managed to trap all Thylacines in the Dreamtime by using these, although the portal was destroyed and the talismans scattered thanks to one throwing his boomerang to dislodge the talismans. A family of Bilbies adopted the apparent last Thylacine left behind. Years later, a Bunyip informs Ty, the Thylacine, about his heritage and Boss Cass. Ty sets out to find the Talismans before Cass to rescue his family and save the race of mammals. Ty's old friend, Maurie, a sulphur chrested cockatoo, introduces him to a scientist named Julius , a Koala who has invented a device that will find the Talismans and warp him to their locations. The catch is that the device requires a power source known as Thunder Eggs, which Ty must collect. With help from his girlfriend, Shazza the Dingo; Park Ranger Ken, the Tasmanian Devil; and Dennis the Green Tree Frog, Ty comes closer to freeing his family and the Outback from the tyrannical domination of Boss Cass. It is at this point that Cass, learning of Ty's collecting the Thunder Eggs and Talismans, deploys his highest-ranking henchman- another Tasmanian Tiger. Ty clashes several times, and, during their last duel, actually saves his rival from falling to his death in a river of lava.During the final fight against Cass's massive robot, the mysterious Tasmanian Tiger- Sly- makes an appearance. Declaring his turning against Cass, he gives Ty the boomerang their family used to scatter the talismans beforehand, and Ty takes down the cassowary, saving Australia and his family.

Gameplay

The game is similar to games such as Super Mario Sunshine, in which the character goes into an unlocked world and has to gather a certain item by beating a mission. Although it is a setting in which you usually are giving a key mission and there are side missions along the way.The combat used for the game features more of a 64 type game in which the player is given simple controls and doesn't need a strategy.

Boomerangs

At first, Ty has only one boomerang to wield. As the game progresses; however, he gets more boomerangs, this time in pairs. The player can only equip one pair at a time, and each pair has unique abilities.

Characters

Protagonists

* Ty the Tasmanian Tiger - Thought to be the last remaining tasmanian tiger, Ty is wild and outgoing thylacine with a heart full of spirit and bravery. Skilled with his trusty boomerangs, he must find many thunder eggs to retrieve the 5 mystic talismans and free his family and friends from the Dreaming.
* Maurie - Maurie the sulphur-crested cockatoo is your helper and friend. He teaches Ty new controls and abilities as well as telling him where to find things.
* Julius - Julius the koala is the greatest...yet a little ecentric...inventor in Australia. He hooks you up with the talisman portals, and if you collect golden cogs, he'll give you new Technorangs with special abilities.
* Sly the Tasmanian Tiger - This bad boy is sure one baddie Ty is on the lookout for! The only other Tasmanian tiger with an active part in the first game. At first he's on Boss Cass' side, but at the end he switches sides. Though neither of them know it, Sly is the brother of Ty. Sly looks a lot like Ty, although he is more of a light brown color with darker stripes and different bangs and blue eyes. He also tends to have a more world-weary expression.
* Bunyip Elder - A Spirit Shaman. Told Ty about his origins and what he must do to free his family.
* Lenny the Lyrebird - A lyrebird who lies. There is always an alternate way around the obstacle he points out.
* Sheila - Another koala. Her kids usually get lost, and pleads Ty to locate them.
* Boonie - One of Sheila's naughty and myschevious kids.
* Neddy - The biggest bully in the Black Stump. After his defeat, Neddy becomes Ty's friend.
* Shazza - Shazza the dingo is Ty's girlfriend, and always seems to get into trouble. She runs an emu farm and the emus tend to break out to eat at the local hamburger joint. She has a barely disguised crush on Ty, and kisses him after he defeats Shadow.
* Ranger Ken - Ken is a Tasmanian Devil and the local, friendly woods patroller. He will talk to you and have a few challenges also. He takes great care of the flora and fauna in the Outback, and is always there if someone is in need of assistance.
* Rex - Rex the platypus is the master at swimming. He teaches Ty how to swim, dive, gives him the Aquarangs, and has time-attack challenges. He is a lifeguard at Ship Rex.
* Elle - Rex's wife; she enjoys finding treasure with Rex.
* Dennis - Dennis the cheapskate...er...I uh...mean green tree frog has one of the biggest Thunder Egg collections this side of the Black Stump. Prissy and neat, Dennis is one worry wart that drives Maurie up the wall.

Antagonists and Bunyips

* Boss Cass - An evil cassowary with plans on dominating the world.
* Blue Tongued Lizards - Large blue lizards. These are one of the tough enemies, requiring multiple hits to defeat.
* Frill Lizards - Skinny green lizards. They are Cass's main henchmen and the standard one-hit-defeat bad guys throughout most levels.
* Fluffy - A Thorny Devil who pilots a giant yeti-like robot (which was mistaken for the real Fluffy by many fans, until the second game). Fluffy seems to have a love interest in Sly but he is still an enemy.
*Bull - Large razorback pig that is the first boss that Ty faces. He will see him in his pen and later allows him to ride on him.
* Crikey - Cass' mechanical shark. He used to be the ruler of the sea, but Cass captured him, made him mechanical and under his control. He is the second boss you fight.
* Ninja Geckos - Small rainforest enemies that can hide, run fast, and throw darts. They take 1 hit, but are harder to kill than a basic frilled lizard.
* Shadow - One of Cass' main henchman. She is a bat with a huge temper. She also has a small underling squad of bats. Watch out for her in Cass' Crest. She is the forth boss.
* Skinks - Large lizards that have a paddle that can block boomerangs. Bite it, hit it with a Kaboomarang or hit it several times with a Flamerang to kill it.
* Sly the Tasmanian Tiger - Cass' main henchman. He is Ty's long lost brother. Once Ty and Sly were separated when their parents left to fight Cass, Sly had the misfortune to be found, captured,and raised by Cass. After being defeated by Ty, he vows to see and defeat Ty. After Ty defeats Shadow, Sly appears, ready for battle on a bridge over lava, Ty ends up saving his life, catching Sly before he lands in the lava. When Ty battles the final boss (Boss Cass) Sly jumps up and gives Ty a Doomerang, the most powerful boomerang ever created. With this rang, Ty defeats Boss Cass. During the time which Ty saves Sly's life and Ty's battle with Cass, Sly has found out the truth about his parents. Cass told him that his parents abandoned him while he was young, but Cass was the one which had trapped them into the Dreaming in the first place.

Bunyip Powers-sometimes you will come across a geyser with orbs floating above it. These orbs can be obtained and for a short time and you will be able to wield the power of the bunyip, eliminate lizards within a single blow and perform a powerfully damaging roar.

TV Show

It was believed that DPS Film Roman were developing a Ty animated cartoon television show,Verify source|date=April 2008 but as there has been no mention of it, the project appears cancelled.Verify source|date=April 2008
