S-Line (Norfolk Southern)

The Norfolk Southern S-Line is a secondary main line which runs between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Salisbury, North Carolina.

It is operated by Norfolk Southern Railway under 2 divisions. Half of it the Piedmont Division and the other half the Central Division.

Trains

Trains on the S- Line are mainly manifests, locals, grain trains to and from Columbia, South Carolina and coal trains from Belmont, North Carolina.Local trains operate at several different yards between Barber Jct. and Hickory, North Carolina. Intermodal trains and Amtrak passenger trains do not use this line.

All trains are required to be given track authorities from the Asheville Dispatcher.

Locals

#P-60 -- 5 Days a Week, Weekends off.

#P-61 -- 7 days a week. Sundays the local goes back to Linwood usually with only light engines.

#P-62 -- Late Evening to Early Morning Sunday through Thursday

#P-64 -- Friday to Tuesday Early Mornings. Off Wednesday & Thursdays

#PH-02 -- Monday through Friday Mid Morning to Late Afternoon

#P-71 -- Uses the same engines from #PH-02

Manifest

#134 (Eastbound) - Arrives at Linwood between Mid Morning to Late Afternoon, Sometimes mid to late evening or later.

#135 (Westbound) - Usually departs Linwood between Mid to Late Morning.

#166 (Eastbound) - Arrives at Linwood between Mid Evening to Early Morning.

#165 (Westbound) - Departs Linwood between 10:00PM and 12:00AM

#66E (Westbound) - Loaded Woodchip Train.

#67E (Eastbound) - Empty Woodchip Train.

Coal Trains

#750 (Eastbound) - Loaded Coal Train to Belmont, North Carolina or Spencer, North Carolina

#751 (Westbound) - Emprty Coal Train going to Virginia.

#72R (Eastbound) - Loaded Belmont Coal Train.

#73R (Westbound) - Empty Coal Train.

#76Q (Eastbound) - Loaded Coal Train- Only running on occasions.
