five seasons=1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925 The 1923 Atlantic hurricane season ran through the summer and the first half of fall in 1923. The season was a little below average with 7 tropical storms, of which only 3 became hurricanes and one became a major hurricane.torms
Hurricane One

Basin=Atl
Formed=August 30, 1923
Dissipated=September 9, 1923
1-min winds=90
Pressure=<989The season began late with a tropical storm being observed northeast of the
Turks and Caicos on August 30. It turned north and then northeast, passing very near the island ofBermuda shortly before becoming a hurricane. After passing Bermuda and reaching hurricane strength, the storm turned northward and slowed down. For two days, the storm drifted slowly north across the north Atlantic, reaching its peak intensity of 105 mph during this time. On September 8, the storm weakened back to a Category 1 hurricane and began to accelerate while curving slightly to the northeast. The storm became extratropical shortly before strikingNewfoundland on the evening of September 9. No damage was reported.Hurricane Two

Basin=Atl
Formed=September 24, 1923
Dissipated=October 1, 1923
1-min winds=105
Pressure=965The season's only major hurricane, Hurricane Two was first discovered north of
Hispaniola on September 24. It passed throughthe Bahamas as a strengthening hurricane, then recurved to the northeast as it approached the southeastern United States, reaching major hurricane intensity shortly afterwards. The storm began to weaken as it entered the cooler waters of the north Atlantic, finally devolving into a powerful extratropical cyclone that would later impact Newfoundland with hurricane-force winds. Damage, however, was minimal in all affected areas.Hurricane Three

Basin=Atl
Formed=October 12, 1923
Dissipated=October 16, 1923
1-min winds=85
Pressure=<988The third storm of 1923 was the first recorded example of a storm crossing from the Eastern Pacific basin into the Atlantic basin. It formed in the deep tropical latitudes south of
Guatemala in mid-October. The storm didn't strengthen much in the Pacific as it moved generally due north to north-northwest. It struck the Mexican state ofOaxaca on October 13 and crossed theIsthmus of Tehuantepec into theBay of Campeche . It strengthened into a hurricane while continuing northward across the Gulf of Mexico, making landfall alongAtchafalaya Bay , Louisiana as a Category 2. Damage was restricted to harbor areas, including some barges being sunk or driven ashore. The downing of trees and telegraph poles was also reported.Tropical Storm Four

Basin=Atl
Formed=October 14, 1923
Dissipated=October 20, 1923
1-min winds=40
Pressure=UnknownThe second storm of what would turn out to be a very active October was perhaps more notable for its extratropical stage than its tropical stage. It formed just north of Panama on October 14. This storm moved very slowly thoughout much of its lifetime, crawling across central Cuba as a minimal tropical storm, dumping lots of rain but significant flooding was not reported. The storm lost tropical characteristics over the Bahamas but continued to grow in intensity. The storm moved inland across theDelmarva Peninsula and continued into Canada before losing its identity in the northerly latitudes. Wind gusts as high as 82 mph were reported on the mid-Atlantic coast, but no significant damage is mentioned in the Monthly Weather Review.Tropical Storm Five

Basin=Atl
Formed=October 15, 1923
Dissipated=October 19, 1923
1-min winds=45
Pressure=UnknownThis storm formed north of theLeeward Islands on October 15 and moved generally northeast for its first two days before recurving back to the northwest. The storm never strengthened much and struck Cape Cod as a weakening tropical storm. The highest wind gust reported was 48 mph on Nantucket.Tropical Storm Six
Infobox Hurricane Small
Basin=Atl
Formed=October 16, 1923
Dissipated=October 18, 1923
1-min winds=45
Pressure=UnknownTropical Storm Six was a large but disorganized system that developed in the central Gulf of Mexico on October 16. It's formation meant that for a brief time on the 16th, there were four tropical storms active in the Atlantic simultaneously, a rare occurance. The storm moved north-northeast, gaining little in intensity and striking the Mississippi coast with 45 mph sustained winds. The strongest gust reported was 56 mph atPensacola, Florida , showing how large the wind field of this system was.Tropical Storm Seven
Infobox Hurricane Small
Basin=Atl
Formed=October 24, 1923
Dissipated=October 26, 1923
1-min winds=45
Pressure=UnknownThis storm is not mentioned in the Monthly Weather Review and little is known about it beyond the official track. It formed in late October north of the Leeward Islands and moved initially northward before turning more toward the west-northwest. The storm never gained much intensity and lost its identity south of Bermuda. Its extratropical remnant likely brought gusty winds to Bermuda.See also
