United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 3.1square mile s (8.1km² ), of which, 2.9 square miles (7.6 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (6.09%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,744 people, 722 households, and 495 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 596.9 people per square mile (230.6/km²). There were 767 housing units at an average density of 262.5/sq mi (101.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.90% White, 0.11% African American, 0.86% Native American, 1.03% Asian, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.57% of the population.There were 722 households out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.85.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.4 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $44,519, and the median income for a family was $54,583. Males had a median income of $38,456 versus $29,432 for females. The
per capita income for the town was $24,723. About 5.1% of families and 7.6% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 7.9% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.References
