According to the
United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 34.9 square miles (90.5 km²), of which, 34.2 square miles (88.7 km²) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) of it (2.00%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,627 people, 692 households, and 501 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 47.5 people per square mile (18.3/km²). There were 766 housing units at an average density of 22.4/sq mi (8.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.71% White, 0.12% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.12% Asian, and 0.68% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.31% of the population.There were 692 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,338, and the median income for a family was $34,122. Males had a median income of $28,203 versus $19,783 for females. The
