According to the
United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 30.4square mile s (78.8km² ), of which, 29.8 square miles (77.2 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²) of it (1.97%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 577 people, 236 households, and 172 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 19.4 people per square mile (7.5/km²). There were 336 housing units at an average density of 11.3/sq mi (4.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White.There were 236 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males.
