Herron School of Art and Design is a school within Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis or simply,
IUPUI . Herron is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and the Teacher Training Licensing Commission of the Indiana State Board of Education.Herron offers education opportunities for visual arts careers in
painting ,drawing , ceramics,printmaking ,photography ,sculpture , visual communication design, art education, furniture design, andart history .Students can earn the following degrees:
Bachelor of Fine Arts ,Bachelor of Arts , Bachelor of Art Education, a Master of Art Education and aMaster of Fine Arts program in visual communication design. Additionally, three new Master of Fine Arts programs in printmaking, sculpture and furniture design will be offered starting the fall semester of 2008.For many years, the school was located on its own campus at 16th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
In 2005, the school moved into a new building on the
IUPUI campus: Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hall. This convert|169000|sqft|m2|sing=on facility tripled the amount of space available to Herron students and includes a convert|5500|sqft|m2|sing=on library, a 240-seat auditorium, convert|4200|sqft|m2 of gallery space, and several computer labs.The first phase of Herron's new facilities, the Sculpture and Ceramics building, was completed and opened for classes in January 2000.
Saturday School
Herron gives Saturday art classes from 1PM to 4PM. There is a fall session and a spring session. Each session is 10 weeks long, with the 10th week being an art show. Students can get the Outstanding Student Award, which gives a discount on the next class, for their hard work. There is usually only one or two of these in each class.
