The 1994 Rose Bowl was a college football bowl game played on January 1, 1994. It was the 80th Rose Bowl Game. The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the UCLA Bruins 21-16. Wisconsin Badgers

The 1993 Wisconsin Badgers football team only lost once, to the Minnesota Golden Gophers by a score of 21-28. Footage from that 1993 Minnesota vs. Wisconsin game held in the Metrodome was used in the television series Coach to represent the fictional Minnesota State and West Texas Universities in the "Pioneer Bowl" at the Alamodome. The Gopher loss was followed up by a 13-10 win over Michigan and a 14-14 tie with Ohio State. Ohio State had lost to Michigan 0-28. Wisconsin played Michigan State in the last Mirage Bowl and won. Both Wisconsin and Ohio State ended up with identical 9-1-1 records with 6-1-1 conference records. Wisconsin won the tiebreaker by virtue of the Big Ten rules wherein the tied first place team with the most recent Rose Bowl invitation would be eliminated. Wisconsin had last been to the 1963 Rose Bowl, while Ohio State was in the 1985 Rose Bowl. Ohio State went to the 1993 Holiday Bowl where they defeated BYU 28-21. [DAVID E. UCLA Bruins

UCLA had opened the season with two close losses: 25-27 against California, and 13-14 against Nebraska. The Bruins then had a seven game winning streak, including a win over number 7 Arizona. They lost 3-9 against Arizona State. The 1993 UCLA-USC rivalry game had the PAC-10 championship and the Rose Bowl on the line for both the Bruins and Trojans. UCLA won 27-21 at the Coliseum. Arizona was tied for first, but could not go to the Rose Bowl because of the head-to-head loss at UCLA. Arizona had its first 10-win season and defeated the University of Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl by a score of 29-0. This also marked Terry's last appearance as a coach in the Rose Bowl.
