rcdb_number=2861Backlot Stunt Coaster, formerly called Italian Job: Stunt Track until the 2008 season, is a
launched roller coaster currently open atCanada's Wonderland . It was opened in 2005 on May 1. Its theme was centred on the climactic chase scene at the end of the 2003 film "The Italian Job". The ride features unique cars which resemble ¾ scale MINI Cooper cars. Special effects are incorporated throughout the ride which include sound effects built into the cars, ahelicopter that attacks riders with simulatedmachine gun sound, a fire, andpyrotechnic and water effects. During the boost at the beginning of the ride the coaster accelerates from 0 to 40 mph (0–64 km/h) in three seconds.Ride Layout and Experience
The trains are launched from 0-40 mph in the first LIM boost section directly after the station into a triple helix up a parking garage. The track then drops down and you weave through a narrow gorge past cop cars and turn 180 degrees back in an over-banked curve. Following this is a banked turn through the park past the Hollywood sign. Your train then rushes down subway stairs and curves to the left and slows down, where you experience the black helicopter with the machine gun, and the fire show. The cars are launched again into the tunnel and twist downwards. Upon leaving the tunnel, the track drops down again into the what used to be the water splash section before curling 180 degrees left into the final brakes.
Back when Backlot Stunt Coaster was called The Italian Job: Stunt Track and themed to
The Italian Job , sound recordings of "Action!" and "Cut!" would be heard at the launch and the brakes, respectively. Also, the last drop which simulated the Mini Coopers jumping out of the sewer into the canal in he final scene, featured water jets that sprayed either way to simulate a splash down. Both of these features were removed when Paramount Parks was sold to Cedar Fair, as well as a soundtrack for the ride and some effects in the fire show area.Trains
Backlot Stunt Coaster has three trains, each with three cars, and each car can sit four people. All the cars are shaped like small cars, which are in fact 3/4 scale Mini Cooper cars. One of the three cars in each train is red. One of the other two is blue, and the remaining one is white. The colours of the cars are not in the same order in all the trains, but the same three colours are used in all the trains.
pecial Effects
Because the roller coaster's theme is centered around the movie 2003 movie
The Italian Job , it features many special effects throughout the ride. Firstly, as the train approaches the tunnel, a helicopter starts making a simulatedmachine gun fire sound. The machine gun fire sound lasts for a couple seconds until an explosion occurs that starts a fire just a few meters away from the trains. The gun fire sound returns again and there is a blast of flames above the tunnel's entrance, right before the train is launched again.References
