Samuel Wong (zh-c|黃大德) is a
Hong Kong -bornCanadian conductor andophthalmologist .Wong led the
New York Philharmonic after the absence ofLeonard Bernstein in December 1990 and temporarily replacedZubin Mehta in Washington D.C. in January 1991. From 1996 to 2004 he was the music director for theHonolulu Symphony drawing an annual salary of US$100,000. From 1999-2002, he was principal conductor of theMannes Orchestra inManhattan, New York . In 2000 he was named the sixth music director of theHong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), succeeding British conductorDavid Atherton . He left the HKPO post in 2004. In 2006, Wong returned to medicine.References
