Phaëthon (band)

Phaëthon is a moderately progressive hard rock band from the Worcester/Boston area of Massachusetts. Three albums have been self-released, "Foulplay", "Gravity", and "Mister Sillythought's Silly Thoughts". The band is notable and significant musically because of their revival of rock ideals and largely do-it-yourself nature, with all albums so far being recorded in the basement of one of the band members. Although "Foulplay" and "Gravity" were solo projects, written and recorded completely by Lucas Gustafson, the newest release, "Mister Sillythought's Silly Thoughts" is an actual band effort. Although the band has not found an indie label to release their recordings yet, they happily mail them to anyone who contacts them showing interest.

Discography

The albums "Foulplay" and "Gravity" are both solo efforts by guitarist/vocalist Lucas Gustafson. Although in the liner notes the band is listed as a live band, Lucas performs all instruments and vocals on these two albums.

"Foulplay"

Foulplay was written between August 2005 and August 2006. Recording commenced in January 2006 and was finished on October 7 of the same year. The album is about 50 minutes long and carries a heavily noticeable Pink Floyd influence.

"Gravity"

Gravity was written and recorded between the springs of 2006 and 2007. This album is also about 50 minutes long, but the influences are more broad, usually resulting in "proggier" songs than those offered on "Foulplay".

"Mister Sillythought's Silly Thoughts"

This album was written for the most part in the fall and winter of 2007. After initially recording three songs in December to issue as a promo to hand out in the meantime (so the band could give out recordings that featured the full band), the other 5 songs were recorded through the next few months, and the album was completed officially on April 10th, 2008.
