Personal life

Ministerial Rebirth / Enlightenment Experience

Soon after Juanita graduated from high school, she started preaching in nearby churches and at revivals. Gaining some notoriety at this point she began a series of what she calls "Lessons in Submission" [http://web.archive.org/web/20021215011108/www.juanitabynum.com/articles/art1a.htm] ". The process was iniated by an experience that occurred when Bynum traveled to Port Huron, Michigan preach at a church. After she delivered her sermon, the pastor shocked her with a stern warning from God. The pastor said "You're a very gifted young woman. But the Lord told me to tell you that five years from now you will be a 'has been' because you are relying on your gift, but your character has not been birthed yet." He Continued. "God said if you will give me your black book ( A book of requests for her to minister) and come off the evangelism field and be broken, He will anoint you to become a common household name, You will go down in history as a woman of God who helped shape the course of Christendom."
In reflection, Bynum believes her reluctant act of submission introduced her to the real Juanita Bynum, who she says "wasn't pretty at all." These lesson in brokeness were a result of experiences with a marriage ending in divorce, a struggle anorexia nervosa, and governmental living assistance. Bynum eventually wrote a book detailing her nine-year experience in Port Huron titled Don't Get Off the Train.

Post-Ministerial Rebirth / Enlightenment Experience

After her nine year ordeal,Bishop T.D. Jakes invited Bynum to attend one of his singles conferences in 1996, where she rose from attendee to speaker in two years. In 1997, she released her No More Sheets video and audiotape series. Bynum's willingness to share her story about sexual brokenness immediately catapulted her to national attention. A book version of the series takes readers through Bynum's story of sexual promiscuity and her victorious journey out of it. In July of 1999, Bynum repreached "No More Sheets" at T.D Jakes's 80,000 attendee " Woman, Thou Art Loosed!" Conference in Atlanta. In 2000, Juanita Bynum taught a class on the subjects of character, submission and time management at Greater Bethel Ministries in Hempstead, New York, attended by approximately class of 70 women; While launching, her conference Women Weapons of Power Conference was organized.
