Anti-mass spectrometer

Anti-mass spectrometer

An anti-mass spectrometer is a fictional device in the computer game Half-Life. It is not specified in game what the function of the device is, but a mass spectrometer is used to separate isotopes in a sample in order to determine the ratios of the different isotopes within that sample, so presumably an anti-mass spectrometer is used for a similar purpose given a sample composed of anti-mass.

The device is first encountered in the first level of the game, Anomalous Materials, and is responsible for the "resonance cascade" that forms the main plot device of the rest of the Half-Life series.

The device is presumably hazardous to operate as the character of Gordon Freeman must wear a Hazardous Environment Suit in order to enter the area, and the player will be damaged if they stand under the "beam".
