Presidents Cup Matches were held in 1996 betweenSeptember 13 andSeptember 15 . They were played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club inGainesville, Virginia ,USA . The United States team won the competition by a margin of 16½–15½. The honorary chairmen was former President of the United StatesGeorge H.W. Bush .Format
Both teams had 12 players plus a non-playing captain. This changed from 1994 when the United States had 11 players plus a playing captain. On the first and second day four-ball was played in the morning and foursomes were played in the afternoon. On the third day only singles were played.
