Club
Reid plays his club
hurling with his local Ballyhale Shamrocks team and has enjoyed much success. He enjoyed some success at underage levels before winning a senior county title in2006 when he was just out of the minor grade. Reid later added a Leinster club title to his collection when Ballyhale won the provincial title at the end of the year. The club later qualified for the All-Ireland final with Loughrea providing the opposition. Reid gave a masterful display of hurling in that game and finished with 2-2. He also collected a coveted All-Ireland club medal. Reid first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny minor team in the mid-2000s. He enjoye dlittle success in this grade before later joining the county under-21 team in 2006. That year he collected his first Leinster title in that grade following a victory over Dublin. The subsequent All-Ireland final saw 'the Cats' take on Tipperray. That game ended in a draw, however, a replay the following week at
Semple Stadium gave victory to Kilkenny and gave Reid a coveted All-Ireland medal. The subsequent All-Ireland final saw Kilkenny take on Tipperary. After an exciting game victory went to Kilkenny by 2-13 to 0-15 with Reid collecting a second All-Ireland under-21 medal. Reid made his debut with the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in 2008 in the Leinster semi-final against Offaly. He missed out on an appearance in the subsequent Leinster final victory over Wexford, however, he did play in 'the Cats' defeat of arch-rivals Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final. The subsequent All-Ireland final saw Kilkenny take on Waterford. It was their first meeting in the championship decider since 1963. A classic game of hurling was expected by many, however, Kilkenny started stronger. Two goals by
Eddie Brennan after twenty minutes effectively killed the game, however, ‘the Cats’ ploughed on. Reid came on as a substitute in the second-half and chipped in with four points to help his team to an enormous 3-30 to 1-13 victory. It was Kilkenny's third All-Ireland title in-a-row and Reid had the honour of collecting his first senior All-Ireland medal on the field of play.
