Anthony Thistlethwaite (sometimes credited as Anto Thistlethwaite) (born
31 August 1955 ,Lutterworth ,Leicestershire ,England ) is a British multi-instrumentalist best known as a member of thefolk-rock groupThe Waterboys .He and leader Mike Scott remained the nucleus of the band from the early 1980s until Thistlethwaite's departure in 1992. Thistlethwaite was invited by Scott to join The Waterboys after Scott heard Thistlethwaite performing a
saxophone solo on thesong "Johnny Smiled Slowly"ref|archive, a track for the 1982Nikki Sudden album , "Waiting on Egypt". Thistlethwaite had joined the band as a saxophonist, but has performed other instruments, especially themandolin , while touring with The Waterboys.Thistlethwaite joined the
Saw Doctors and released solo albums until re-joining The Waterboys between 1999 and 2000. Thistlethwaite has also played on albums by, or on tours with,The Psychedelic Furs ,Fairground Attraction ,World Party ,Robyn Hitchcock and The Mission.Sharon Shannon , also a member of The Waterboys, recorded asong that she named "Anto's Cajun Cousins" on her 1991 album "Sharon Shannon".Discography
