Egisto (opera)

Egisto ("Aegisthus") is an opera in a prologue and three acts by Francesco Cavalli. It was designated as a "favola dramatica musicale". The Italian libretto was by Giovanni Faustina, his second text for Cavalli.

Performance history

It was first performed in Venice at the Teatro S Cassiano in 1643. Highly successful in its day, it was subsequently performed throughout Italy.
